Edmunston NB – International Ferry (ca 1907)
This is a turn-of-the-20th century postcard depicting the International Ferry at Edmunston, N.B.
It’s part of my small cluster of postcards built around the theme of historical ferries.
Here is the ferry boat enlarged so you can take a closer look at the technology.
Note the wires (or cables) to the right which I believe would lead to an overhead wire strung across the river.
The man has a pole in his hand. I’m not sure whether this was used for the ferry crossing or just to maneuver the boat to its final resting place.
This postcard was sent to a Mr. Rene Sirois in Skowhegan, Maine (USA). The note says “Souvenir du Boat – a Thomas” and is signed by his Tante Denise. In other words, the sender signs off as his Aunt Denise and says that the postcard is a picture of Thomas’ boat. I would love to know who this Thomas was.
In a quick internet search I found one Rene Sirois in Skowhegan who was married to a Mary Lacasse – so I am hoping to hear from some Maine Sirois about this mystery!
