Blog Fodder? The Beloit College Mindset Project

Thanks to my niece Gabrielle, I found this terrific Beloit College Mindset List where Tom McBride and Ron Nief produce annual lists of cultural touchstones that show the “rapidly changing frame of reference for each incoming class”.

I’m sharing it with all of you family history bloggers because I know that many of us find it easier to blog about our ancestors’ lives rather than our own. Maybe this will be the inspiration I need to start blogging about the cultural changes that have taken place in my own short  -:)  lifetime.

For students of the  2010 graduating class …..

The Green Giant has always been Shrek, not the big guy picking vegetables.
They have never used a card catalog to find a book.
Salsa has always outsold ketchup.
Tattoos have always been very chic and highly visible.
Rap music has always been main stream.
Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream has always been a flavor choice.
Text has always been hyper.

  1. How truly strange. Our world has changed SO much. Even over the past 20 years. To think there are kids who don’t remember telephones with cords?! It is an odd world we live in, isn’t it?

  3. The cultural changes that takes place around is an indication that the world is changing with time and one has to keep up with the pace.
