Bathurst, N.B. – A Historic View Of The Bridge | A Canadian Family
This is a rather mangled, black & white postcard of the Bathurst bridge in the early twentieth century which I’m sharing with you because there are so few early views of Bathurst online. I would love to hear from anyone who can help me date this bridge – or who can tell me the relationship – if any – between this Bathurst bridge and this other bridge in Bathurst.

Hi Evelyn,
Both the “BATHURST, N. B. FROM BRIDGE” postcard and the “Busy Bathurst, New Brunswick — 11.” postcard show the same bridge over the Tetagouche River. The Busy Bathurst postcard is a panoramic view of the bridge taken from a high place, such as the roof of a building or a hilltop. The photographer that created the image on the postcard featured in this post was actually located on the bridge, just past the central arches (so they would not obstruct the view). I am providing a composite image, showing the relationship between these two views, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37403014@N05/4448565122/– Leo
Hi Leo,
I had actually noticed the similarity in the white buildings on the opposite shore, to the left of the bridge, but the bridge in the coloured image looked so much larger than this one. I’ve really learned something here about how different things can look from different camera angles. Thank you very much!
