Verdun in Black and White: Family Photographs from the 1940s/1950s(2)
Another family photograph from the years when we were living in a 3rd floor flat on rue de l’Eglise (Church Avenue) in Verdun, Quebec.

Wordless Wednesday
These were the years when television first arrived in our neighbourhood. At first there was one in the tavern at the corner and adults went to watch it there, but then a few families – and mine was one of the lucky ones – eventually got their own television.
There was a brand-new show that year – The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason, If you watch this Honeymooners clip you’ll certainly get that ’50s feeling, and you’ll also see an apartment that was very much like our working class apratment on rue de l’Eglise in Verdun. What’s especially striking is how plain the apartment looked and how little “stuff” we had compared to today.
