The First Dunns of Riviere-au-Renard (Little Fox River)
A few weeks ago M. Alain Dunn saw my vintage postcard of Little Fox River/Petite Riviere-au-Renard. He left a comment telling us – among other things – that two of the people on the vintage postcard were from his Dunn family of Riviere-au-Renard. Today I’m sharing a little genealogical information about the children of John Dunn and Madeline Page – pioneering Dunns of Riviere-au-Renard.
Offspring of John Dunn and Madeline Page
Francois Dunn was born on October 20th, 1783 in St-Joseph parish in Carleton (Bonaventure) Quebec. A note on the baptism record states that the family were from Perce.
John Dunn married Louise Bond on October 24th, 1808 in Barachois (Gaspesie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine). Louise’s first husband was Ignace Rifou.
Jacques Dunn married Angelique Duguay in March of 1810 in St-Michel parish in Perce (Gaspesie-Iles-de-les-Madeleines). Angelique was the daughter of Jacques Duguay and Veronique Chapados (I’m a descendant of the Chapados through my M-line).
Louise Dunn married Pierre Chouinard on October 13th, 1804 in St-Michel parish in Perce. Pierre was the son of Louis Chouinard and Marie Francoise Pelletier.
Marie Dunn married Patrick Synnott on 17 Sep 1814 in Anse-au-Griffon (Gaspesie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine QC ) in St-Joseph Parish. Patrick’s parents were Edouard Synnott and Josette Robert.
Genevieve Dunn was born on the 5th of July 1793 in St-Joseph parish in Carleton (Bonaventure).
Felix Dunn was born in 1798. He married Marguerite Dubois on 22 Nov 1819 in Perce in St-Michel parish. Marguerite’s parents were Francois Dubois and Marguerite Baker/Blondin.
Elisabeth Isabelle Dunn married Joseph Huard on 19 Aug 1816 in St-Michel parish in Perce . Joseph’s parents were Joseph Huard and Marguerite Lanteigne.

My grandmother Josephine (CLOUTIER) BOIS had 3 cousins that were in the first world war. Two died in/around Vimy Ridge, Belgium. I would like to know any information about them such as their regiment, where they are buried at and any information about them. They are Adollard Dunn& Eucariste Dunn &Odilon Dunn. The mother was Marie Cloutier married Jean-baptiste Dunn.
I am going to visit their graves in Belgium in April. If you know any thing about them I would appreciate it. Ronald Leduc

Bonjour, j’aimerais savoir dans quel pays est né John Dunn, l’époux de Madeleine Pagé.
Grand merci.
Note: Reponse/courriel
I am a descendant of the “Dunn” family. I have the First World War Remembrance medals of both Adelard Dunn and Euchariste Dunn.
I am a great decedent of Joseph Dunn, he made his way across Canada and settled in Edgewood British Columbia in the 1920′s
He married Elizabeth Marion McPhee in Nelson BC but lived in Edgewood BC and gave birth to my father on July 14th 1924.
There’s more history from our side if you want it.
This is VERY exciting!
