Scenes of St-Catherine Street (1/10) Montreal, Quebec
Montreal, Quebec in the early 1900s (?)

I’ve been trying to identify this 5, 10 and 15 cent store with it’s “Nothing over 15 cents” slogan. From personal knowledge (and a little “googling”) this should be a Woolworth’s store – but I can’t actually read the sign above the store.
I’ve found one reference to a St-Catherine Street Woolworth’s store by Colros (flickr see below) but it doesn’t resemble the store in this photograph.
If you’re interested in Montreal buildings you should definitely visit this site as the photographs are simply gorgeous!

Riviere-Ouelle Headstone: Deschamps

This is the grave of Jean-Baptiste Francois Deschamps de la Bouteillerie. He was seigneur of Riviere-Ouelle when our ancestors Andre Mignier dit Lagace and Jacquette Michel settled there.
Francois Deschamps had arrived in Nouvelle France (New France/Quebec) in 1671 when Jean Talon was the Intendant. He had come aboard the ship Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Jean Talon said of him: “if persons of this quality readily take this route, Canada will soon be filled with people capable of maintaining it well.”
Deschamps de la Bouteillerie was granted the seigneury of Riviere-Ouelle by Jean Talon in 1672. By 1681 he was living there with about a dozen families. To learn the names of all the pioneer settlers of Riviere-Ouelle settlers go to: Riviere-Ouelle: Une Paroisse Canadienne au XVII Siecle
