Riviere-Ouelle Memorial Headstone: Roussel/Berube/Emond
This is one of the memorial headstones that I photographed during my genealogical vacation in Riviere-Ouelle a few years ago. It was placed there by the Association des Roussel d”Amerique in honour of Jacques Roussel (1720-1805) and his first and second wives. His wives were Marie-Genevieve Berube (1731-1766) and Genevieve Gabrielle Emond (1735-1802). The stone also states that Jacques Roussel was from Evran in Bretagne (France). The final inscription at the bottom calls these couples : “the ancestors of the Roussels in America”.
Genealogy of the first generations
Jacques Roussel was born in 1720 in Evran Bretagne FR and died in 1805. Jacques was the son of Jean Roussel and Jeanne Charpentier. Jacques married Genevieve Berube on 12 Jan 1750 in Riviere-Ouelle (Kamouraska ) in Notre-Dame-de-Liesse Church. Genevieve was born in 1731 and died in 1766. Her parents were Mathurin Berube and Marie-Angelique Miville/Deschenes.
Children from this marriage:
Josephte Roussel married Jean Berube on 19 Nov 1781 in Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec. His parents were Louis Berube and Urusle Emond. His parents were Louis Berube and Ursule Emond.
Francois Roussel married both his first and second wives in St-Jean-Baptiste parish.
He married his first wife – Therese Cote - on 21 Aug 1785 in L’Isle-Verte (Temiscouata) Quebec. Her parents were Jean Basile Cote and MarieLepage.
He married his second wife – Elisabeth Chaloux – on 27 Nov 1809 in L’Isle-Verte, Quebec. Elizabeth’s first husband was Ignace Cote.
Jean Roussel married Catherine Ouellet on 20 Nov 1780 in La Pocatiere, Quebec. Catherine’s parents were Joseph-Francois Ouellet and Marie Sirois.
5. Catherine Roussel married Joseph Marie Paradis on 21 Oct 1782 in Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec. His parents were Jean Paradis and Felicite Pelletier.
Charles Roussel married Anne Morin on 20 Aug 1787 in La Pocatiere, Quebec. Her parents were Andre Morin and Claire Vaillancourt.
Jacques Roussel married Josephte Dionne on 14 May 1786 in La Pocatiere, Quebec. her parents were Joseph Dionne and Marie Anctil/Saint Jean.
Jacque Roussel’s second wife was Genevieve Gabrielle Emond/Hemond. Jacques and Genevieve were married in Notre-Dame-de-Liesse parish. She was the daughter of Augustin Emond and Ursule Mignot.

8. Louis Roussel married Judith Simon on 8 Nov 1790 in Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec. Judith’s parents were Jean Francois Simon and Judith Ouellet.
9. Lambert Roussel married Genevieve Simon on 14 Jul 1794 in Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec. She was Judith’s sister (see above).
10. Henri Roussel married Marie Levesque on 26 Sep 1807 in Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec. Her parents were Dominique Levesque and Angelique Pelletier.
11. Charlotte Roussel married Louis-Marie Levesque on 30 Jan 1792 in Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec. His parents wre Jean-Baptiste Levesque and Angelique Miville-Deschenes.

I just found your site this morning while looking for family History. The only history we have of our branch of the Roussel Family goes back to Francois Roussel. We had no idea of his parents names and your site has now given us this information. I am the the Great Great Great Granddaughter of Francois Roussel
