Hi, nice blog, I’m very interested in French-Canadian genealogy, my grandmother was French-Canadian. I am also a distant cousin too, my 3rd great-grandmother was Helene Minier-Lagace who married Pierre Tremblay-Romain, who was Seigneur of Eboullements. She descended from Andre Minieur dit Lagace’s son, Michel, who was her greatgrandfather.
Greetings Earline,
Thanks for the compliment – and thanks for the tidbit about Helene. I did not realize that any of the Migniers had married into the seigneurial class.
As you may have realized I descend from Michel Mignier/Lagace through his marriage to Angelique Thibault. Is this also your line?

Hi, yes, I also descend from Michel Minier dit Lagace and Angelique Thibault. Their son Joseph married Marie-Anne Ouelette, and their son Louis Minier-Legace married Marie-Rosalie Richard who were the parents of Helene. Helene and Pierre Tremblay-Romain’s son Philias Tremblay came to Essex County in 1891, where he died that same year. He came with his wife, Marie-Louise Dallaire. Their daughter, Celinase and her family came at the same time. Celinase married John Desbiens in Saint Jerome, PQ. My grandmother, Josephine Desbiens Hines was their daughter.
I just recently found the marriage record for Francois Thibault and Elizabeth-Agnes Lefebvre, Angelique’s parents when I was looking for records for a friend. Do you have a copy of it, if not, I’ll post it on my site. Earline.
Hello Earline,
You have a wonderful site. I dropped in for a little visit yesterday evening but didn’t have time to really dive in.
It would be great if you posted the document on your site and I will certainly spend some time there this weekend.
Note for everyone:
Earline’s site is well worth a visit – http://ancestralnotes.blogspot.com/
I’ll post the record today, I was looking at your Lagace tree, and I couldn’t find where I connect. I did make an error with Helene’s parents, they were Louis Mignier dit Legace and Marie Richard. Louis was the son of Louis Mignier dit Lagace and Marie-Rosalie Richard.I left out a generation. They were from Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatierre, Quebec. I’ll post their records also.
Hello, I have extensive Lagace records which you’ll be able to view when my database goes online. What I’ve posted in this website relates more particularly to my specific line.
As I understand now, your line is through Michel Lagace/Mignier & Angelique Thibault’s son Joseph Lagace(m. Anne Ouellet). You descend through Lagace-Ouellet’s son Louis who married Rosalie Richard.
I descend from Michel Lagace/Mignier & Angelique Thibault’s son Michel Lagace/Mignier and his wife Marguerite Pelletier. My particular line is one of the Lagaces who left Quebec for New Brunswick and founded the Bathurst-area Lagaces.
So Michel Lagace/Mignier and Angelique Thibault are our common ancestors.
I think I have it straight now!
Evelyn
So exciting to find you here. Andre and Jacquette are my 10th great grandparents. I grew up in Maine, USA, and have information I would gladly share–just let me know if you are interested.
I’m glad to meet you too, James – isn’t the World Wide Web wonderful!
I’m always happy to share information. Something I always like to know about is the pioneer Lagaces of each area. For instance the founding couple Lagaces in Maine and perhaps their reasons for moving. I realize the reasons are almost always economic but in the Maine Lagace case I’ve wondered whether they moved there for the lumber mills, farming land or some other reason.
Would you happen to know about this?
